· Guevara wins and Ortolá breaks the record. Starting from pole position, Izan Guevara (Boscoscuro) took victory in the Moto2™ race at the 2026 Grand Prix of France. For the Spaniard, this is the second career win in the intermediate class. The race first set off in wet conditions and finally turned to a dry race at the restart. In both cases, the riders always used slick tyres, almost exclusively with the soft SC1 front and supersoft SCX rear compounds, with the exception of Aron Canet (Boscoscuro) and Daniel Muñoz (Kalex), the only two riders to also use the soft SC0 rear. Guevara was followed by Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex) and Ivan Ortolá (Kalex), with the latter setting the new race lap record on the fourth lap in 1’34.455, and improving the record set last year by Barry Baltus (1’34.941) by almost half a second.

· Quiles’ third time. Spanish rider Máximo Quiles (KTM) claimed his third win of the season by winning the Moto3™ race run in wet conditions, with Pirelli DIABLO™ Rain tyres - used by all riders – with the race being shortened to 13 laps, as the regulations require when riders have not had any other wet sessions before the race. Second place went to polesitter Adrián Fernández on Honda, and Matteo Bertelle (KTM) finished third.

· Variable temperatures and weather. Over the 3-day French GP, both the weather conditions and the temperatures changed significantly. Until Saturday, all sessions took place on a dry track, in sunshine and with rather mild temperatures, while Sunday was marked by rain falling shortly before the start of the Moto3™ race.

A demanding yet positive Sunday

“Sunday was marked by unstable weather conditions, which significantly affected both the race and the choice of tyres. Despite a first wet start for the Moto2™, due to a very damp track, all riders opted for slick tyres, mainly with the soft SC1 front and supersoft SCX rear combo. The subsequent restart was declared dry, even though the surface was still damp and extremely slippery, therefore not ideal for slick tyres. In this complex context, also considering relatively low temperatures for the soft compounds, the solutions adopted delivered a high performance, as shown by the new race lap record, improved by almost half a second compared with last year.
The Moto3™ race, held on a fully wet track, was even more challenging and demanding. Indeed, all weekend sessions took place in dry conditions, forcing the riders to face the race without the chance to assess the behaviour of the DIABLO™ Rain wet tyres before actually using them. The Le Mans circuit, known for its limited dry grip, further accentuates this issue in the wet, making the track particularly treacherous.
In this scenario, Quiles showed remarkable adaptability and excellent sensitivity in wet riding, and deserved the win. Fernández and Bertelle also delivered an excellent performance, confirming their competitiveness and solidity in a complex context.”
